Submitting an Inquiry

You can start the complaint process by downloading and filling out the Commission’s Inquiry Form`. Please refer to the Inquiry Form Guide for help completing the form. When you have completed all the questions, please email your form to HRCintake@novascotia.ca. Commission staff will review the information provided and follow up with you.

One of three things will happen after your Inquiry Form is assessed.

  1. Your Inquiry Form will be used to generate a Complaint Form for your signature and proceed through the complaint process.
  2. You will be contacted by an HRO for clarity, further information, or documentation.
  3. You will be advised that your inquiry cannot be accepted and the reason for the decision. You will also be provided the appeal information.

To help apply the criteria for a complaint under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act to your personal situation, you may wish to use the self-assessment tool before contacting us, but you don’t have to.

If for any reason you are not able to complete the Inquiry Form, please contact the Commission and arrangements will be made for you to speak with an HRO.
