Virtual Learning Guide

The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission's Race Relations, Equity, and Inclusion team has adapted in-person training to an interactive virtual learning experience. Please keep in mind your participation, completion of all course materials and training videos found on the homepage are mandatory for accreditation. The following will provide instructions for logging on to Zoom as well as a supply list.

Supplies needed

  • Each participant must have their own laptop, tablet, or cellphone equipped with a camera.
  • Each participant must have a headset equipped with a microphone.
  • Please have all course handouts available at your workstation.

(Please note if participants are working from home or in private offices with no or minimal noise disruptions the use of headsets and microphone is not required)

Logging on Zoom

Please test all equipment in advance of the first session of virtual learning. To do this, choose one person from your group to create a Zoom account if you do not have one already at zoom.us.

A basic Zoom account is free and there are video instructions on how to use all features including scheduling a meeting.

Once your meeting link is sent to all participants, they simply click the link to join the meeting.

  • Participants can download Zoom to their desktop, cellphone, and tablet.
  • During the first day of training, facilitators will take participants through a test run which will allow them to turn on their camera, microphone, and headphones to ensure they are working properly.
  • This practice run is necessary to confirm all participants can navigate joining a Zoom meeting.

We understand technical difficulties are common. Our team will be accommodating and are prepared to assist in resolving tech issues when and if they arise during our virtual class.
