Human Rights Modernization Engagement Summary

Oct 09, 2026

I am pleased to share a summary of feedback gathered through the recent engagement undertaken as part of modernizing Nova Scotia’s human rights system.

The Human Rights Commission is a partner with the Department of Justice in this modernization initiative, under the responsibility of the Minister of Justice who is also the Minister responsible for the Human Rights Act. Narrative Research was engaged by the Department of Justice to independently conduct the engagement and jurisdictional research reflected in this summary.

The summary provides an important account of what Nova Scotians shared about their experiences with, and expectations for, their human rights system. We welcome these perspectives and look forward to the next steps in modernization, and to continuing our work toward a more accessible, effective and responsive human rights system for Nova Scotians.

The preceding is a message from Joseph Fraser, Director and CEO of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.
