Remembering Donald Oliver
Sep 17, 2025
The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission mourns the loss of Donald H. Oliver (CM, ONS, KC) a pioneering human rights champion, lawyer, real estate developer, and former Canadian Senator. Among the multitude of achievements in his very full lifetime was a central role in advocating for the establishment of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act. A lifelong supporter of the arts, he leaves a rich legacy of breaking down barriers of anti-Black systemic racism in Canada, and we remain committed to his vision. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
The preceding is a message from Joseph Fraser, Director & CEO of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.
