Statement: Commission Stands with Muslim Community and Calls for Respect for Rights and Dignity
Jun 10, 2021
In the wake of the horrific events in London, Ontario where 4 members of a Muslim family were killed and another injured in an act of hatred, the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission calls on all Nova Scotians to recognize that everyone has the right to worship freely and without discrimination, intimidation or differential treatment. This right is protected by the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act and any threat to it is illegal.
No one should have to endure the pain and trauma experienced by the Muslim community as a result of this act of violence. It is our collective responsibility to defend the rights of all Nova Scotians. We stand with the Muslim community and call on others to extend kindness and support.
