Statement: Commission Condemns Discrimination

Mar 31, 2021

In light of recent events that have prompted calls for action from community, the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission wants to reiterate its condemnation of anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, and anti-Asian racism.

It is illegal under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act to discriminate on the basis of race, colour, nationality or Aboriginal origin.

Misinformation and prejudices promoted by irrational fear or systemic discrimination are dangerous and threatening to the rights of all Nova Scotians to live free of discrimination and threat to their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

The Commission calls on all Nova Scotians to be vigilant and stand up in defense of their fellow citizens to ensure our collective safety and security during this persistent and ongoing climate of polarization, fear, and tension.

Anyone who believes they have been discriminated against is encouraged to contact the Commission directly.
