Remembering Gerry Post

The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission joins many across the province in mourning the loss of Gerry Post, a tireless advocate whose work helped fundamentally advance accessibility and the rights of people with disabilities in Nova Scotia.

Gerry played a leading role in the community effort that helped shape Nova Scotia’s Accessibility Act and, in 2017, became the first Executive Director of the Accessibility Directorate. In that role, he helped build the foundation for the province’s work toward an accessible Nova Scotia by 2030.

Gerry understood accessibility as a human rights issue and, throughout his advocacy, brought together lived experience, persistence and a remarkable ability to turn ideas into action. His influence can be seen not only in legislation and public policy, but in the growing expectation that people with disabilities must be meaningfully involved in decisions that affect their lives.

We extend our deepest condolences to Gerry’s family, friends and colleagues, and to the disability community in which he was such a determined and influential voice. His contribution to a more accessible and equitable Nova Scotia will be felt for many years to come.
