Independent Human Rights Hearing Begins September 15

An independent human rights board of inquiry in the matter of Dwayne Emmerson vs. Province of Nova Scotia (Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal), will begin on Monday, September 15.

Mr. Emmerson alleges he was discriminated against based on his race and colour while employed by the respondent.

The board chair for the hearing is Eric Slone, who is independent of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel, 250 St. Margarets Bay Rd., Halifax. It is open to media and the public.

Note: the name of the department changed to Transportation and Active Transit in 2021 and to Public Works later that year.
